Unite now Enga leaders

Letters

THIS relates to the tussle among the Enga MPs due to the current political horse-trading.
It has generated a lot of backlash from the public.
Most Enga elites predict that Governor Sir Peter Ipatas is likely to remain in power much longer because he knows people by name.
He knows people who are working in the.
Sir Peter knows the councillors and village court magistrates in Enga electorates by name.
People call Sir Peter Tambuaik in Enga language meaning paramount chief.
He doesn’t necessarily campaign during elections, his associates do that for him.
Sir Peter won the regional seat back with absolute majority in 2017 with little expenses.
A political pundit may think otherwise, but he carries the name “action” and “father of modern Enga” for delivering tangible developments to a province that was once labelled ‘way back’.
Sir Peter was born in Enga and spends most of his time in Enga with his people.
He only leaves the province for parliament sessions or other official duties.
The other five Enga MPs are rarely seen in the province.
They frequently miss provincial assemblies.
They enjoy city luxuries.
At the moment, only Wabag MP Dr Lino Tom, a first-time MP, is with Sir Peter on Prime Minister James Marape’s side while the other four are with the Opposition.
Sir Peter labelled them as small boys when they called for an audit into the Enga government on Porgera mine funds.
Did the four MPs even push the audit agenda during the provincial assemblies? Where was Laigap-Porgera MP Tomait Kapili when the mine started?
Sir Peter has helped Marape to the top post and has played a significant role to take back the mine.
The four MPs’ attempts to score points is pathetic.
The affected people of Porgera are happy about the move to take back Porgera mine and the defection of these four Enga MPs to the Opposition has not gone done well with them.
It’s time they reconcile and unite for the good of their people.
In government makings, Enga MPs were good power-brokers but none was given the top position.
Now is the opportunity for all Enga MP to unite and agree on someone to take the country’s top position. We are watching you.
Act now!
