GAZELLE MP and Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Malakai Tabar has given K50,000 to the United Church New Britain region to assist in staging this year’s general synod.
Tabar gave the cheque to synod organisers during a gathering last Sunday and said his office would be available to assist further to make sure that the synod was a success.
He said the synod was going be a very effective meeting as a lot of people would attend and a lot more would think about their worthiness and purpose within the church.
The two-week synod will start at Rapitok United Church in Gazelle district on Tuesday, August 16, and will end on Friday, August 26.
Over 300 delegates from East and West New Britain are expected to attend the church gathering to discuss issues concerning the church.
The synod will be hosted by the Rapitok United Church division with its three circuits of Rapitok, Sunam and Viviran.
Church representative in the Gazelle District Development Authority Reverend Aron Diop said the 300 delegates would include ministers who will represent the 50 circuits in the United Church New Britain region, church-run institutions, mission institutions and mission health institutions.
It is understood that all matters agreed upon during this synod will be channeled through to the United Church of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands general assembly.
During the synod, six probation ministers will be ordained to become full ministers of the gospel.
According to Rev Diop, this is the second time Rapitok division will be hosting the general synod this year starting August 16.
