Port Moresby United forced a 3-3 draw with Southern Strikers in the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League Southern Conference at the Sir John Guise Stadium on Saturday.
It was a tough challenge for the Strikers when they took on second-placed United but the Margaret Aka-coached side managed to go into the break level at 1-1.
The second half started in the Strikers’ favour, with Sylvister Wanim scoring in the 49th minute to take the lead.
But the lead only lasted for eight minutes, as capitalised on the Strikers’ shortcomings to see midfielder Iamo Makena levelling the scores.
Strikers’ Pettyson Elijah scored in the 76th minute to take back the lead.
It was seconds before full-time when United were awarded a penalty after the Strikers goalkeeper caused an infringement in the penalty box. Makena took the penalty and made no mistake, much to the dismay of the Strikers players, officials and supporters.
