THE people of Yangoru-Saussia in East Sepik will soon be able to take up matriculation studies offered by the PNG University of Natural Resources and Environment (UNRE) in their own district.
Yangoru-Saussia MP Richard Maru said this during a visit to the university’s Vudal campus in East New Britain recently.
Maru said the district’s two-storey university centre which would house programmes from the different universities was now in the final stages of construction and would be fully operational by August.
“Our plan is to run matriculation courses from various universities in one place so students will have a choice, those who want to come to your university will do your matriculation, and those who want to go to Divine Word University (DWU), UPNG and as well as other universities in the country will do their matriculations,” Maru told PNGUNRE vice chancellor Prof Aisak Pue.
Maru said they would have over 1,000 grade 12 students throughout the district in a year, 300 would get offers but the remaining 700 would need other opportunities.
Prof Pue said UNRE would partner with the Yangoru-Saussia district because its role was to equip the rural population with skills and knowledge to develop their resources.
