UNIVERSITY of Papua New Guinea’s (UPNG) journalism and public relations strand leader Emily Matasororo says the number of students taking up journalism programmes has risen this year.
“It is, therefore, timely that more books on journalism are being made available to us,” she added.
Speaking at the donation of books to the Strand by the US Embassy on May 4, Matasororo said the donation came as a surprise as “we were not expecting resource books on journalism”.
“The books will help enhance our learning to graduate,” she said.
Final-year student, Sammy Yapea Unda said he was happy to see US helping to promote journalism in Papua New Guinea.
“In my past three years in the university, I have never seen any recognition to our strand,” she said.
“The books provided a wide concept of journalism which will certainly prepare us for the media industry.
“We will surely learn a lot more than from knowing how journalists work in other countries.”
