A United Church-run teachers college in East New Britain witnessed the dedication of a multi-purpose hall building on May 16.
Gaulim Teachers College in the Gazelle’s Inland Baining local level government celebrated the multi-purpose hall built at the cost of K1.6 million.
Department of Higher Education Research Science and Technology (Dherst) Dr Francis Hualupmomi said the college was one of the oldest institutions in the country and it had taken more than 40 years for the college to receive such a building.
Hualupmomi said the Government saw the need for institutions to have such multi-purpose halls thus it stepped in to help the college.
“I am honoured and blessed to share such moments of success,” he said.
“We were supposed to celebrate the opening in 2021 but due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the opening was moved to today.”
Hualupmomi said teachers and technical colleges that used to be under the Department of Education had now been transferred to Dherst and Gaulim Teachers College was one of them.
He said quality control was important and institutions like Gaulim Teachers College must have quality facilities so they could provide quality teachers training.
He assured the college administration that the department would work with the college administration to ensure that other important infrastructures were built so the standard of the college was upgraded to the next level.
The college also witnessed a ceremony to mark the construction of a new water project.
