University Piggies select trio to play rugby in France

University Piggies, in partnership with Brest Universite Club Rugby (BUC), have selected three of its players to join the French outfit in April as part of a new rugby exchange programme.
Jackson Pato, Kenneth Vagi and Barol Homerang will participate in the programme, an initiative by the Piggies and endorsed by BUC.
BUC and Piggies player Raphael Bouvet said the programme was an opportunity for aspiring rugby talent to develop their understanding of the game while exposed to different cultures.
“Following the passage of a former BUC player to the Piggies during two seasons in PNG, a desire has emerged to promote and develop Papua New Guinean rugby by offering the opportunity to young talented PNG players,” he said.
“The opportunity will help them evolve while being exposed to better infrastructures to those in Port Moresby.
“They will shine when they return to their country in a social development framework and enjoy sporting opportunities at a higher level if their talent allows them to do so.”
Bouvet said the exchange would set up a clear, sustainable process and lead to a formal agreement between BUC and the Piggies.
BUC, established in Brest in 1974, play in the Honneur Championship.
