University resumes classes after civil unrest

THE University of Papua New Guinea has resumed lectures after a week’s suspension following election-related trouble in the city last week.
Vice-chancellor Prof Frank Griffin said now that the situation was under control, all academic activities started today.
He said the decision was made after consultation with the university administration, executive deans of the university’s five schools and acting executive director of the open college.
He thanked the security force and added: “Let us continue to exercise care and remain vigilant until the whole election activities are completed and full normalcy is restored in our city.”
