The University of Goroka has realised the lack of management in most schools and is offering a professional development programme to address that, the head of the university’s Distance and Flexible Learning department says.
“One of the programmes we will offer which is of high demand here in the country as well as Solomon Islands is the teacher professional development programme called the Bachelor in Education School Management,” executive director Kensol Rui said at the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the Maprik district in East Sepik and UOG last Friday.
“In some schools, you will notice tall grasses. This is due to the poor management and poor leadership in the schools.”
“So University of Goroka will address this by offering this degree programme so that that there will be better school administration.”
He said in doing so there would be proper management in the school in terms of finance and teachers.”
“In that way, quality education can also be achieved,” Rui said.
He said the university would also be offering a certificate course in tertiary matriculation.
Kensol said this course was a little different from what other universities were offering.
Grade 12 students who apply to UOG and miss out in the first selection will considered the following year after undergoing the programme.
