Education

TWO science students from the University of Papua New Guinea have received full scholarships this year, thanks to Nickel 28 Capital Corporation.
Nickel 28 tertiary students’ scholarships started last year when K19,000 was awarded to the best second-year student.
Head of earth science division, Prof Joseph Espi, said: “The scholarships sponsored the best student covering the compulsory, boarding and lodging fees plus book allowance and monthly stipend.
“Our last year recipient was Shirley Ambang.
“This year, Nickel 28 Capital Corporation has elected to extend the scholarship to a third year and also sponsor our best second year.
“The recipients of this tertiary scholarship is Shirley Ambang (third year) and Carlos Tongia (second year).”
Meanwhile, Nickel 28 head of Asia Pacific, Craig Lennon, said they are pleased to support the education of students in that way to help the industry and country.
“Nickel 28 has a proud history of exploration through its ownership of Highlands Pacific Ltd, a company that was involved in Porgera, Kainantu, Frieda, Star Mountains and many exploration projects throughout PNG.
“While our only asset in PNG is now an interest in the Ramu Nickel project, we hope that through this scholarship we are directly continuing to support exploration through helping the next generation,” Lennon said.
