UPNG warns public about online scams

The University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) does not offer online courses and free laptops upon registration, according to acting registrar Roboam Kakap.
He issued this warning after a link had been circulating on social media advising the public that UPNG was offering a three-week online certificate course in various fields. The fake notice also said free laptops would be issued upon registration.
However, Kakap, in a statement, said the notice was a scam which was intended to defraud people.
“Also, the university’s name and logo have been illegally used, intended to mislead the public into believing that the notice is from UPNG,” Kakap said.
“The study programmes at UPNG are normally four years to obtain a degree.
Many of these programmes are also offered in the external mode through the Open campuses and the university centres or accredited to offer institutions.
He said that UPNG’s official website was www.upng.ac.pg
