THE University of Papua New Guinea has a new student representative council (SRC) for next year headed by Bill Minjikul as the president.
Minjikul, a third year environmental science major and law minor from Kandep in Enga was declared SRC president among four contestants last Thursday by the university’s registrar’s circular #312/2010.
Minjikul told The National yesterday that the election was very challenging for the candidates because it was done during their study break and the polling was on the final semester exam week.
When asked what would be his priority as the SRC leader, Minjikul said his first priority was to see human integral development in the students as stated by the first goal of the five national directive goals and principles of the country.
“That is spiritual, mental, social and physical aspect of human development.
“To make the student body have a vertical relationship with the spiritual world, as well as the horizontal relationship with fellow man and women and acquire knowledge at greater heights, depths
and breadths.
“Moreover, to help student develop physically into the stature of their God given manhood and womanhood,” Minjikul added.
He also said the SRC, under his leadership, would ensure the university had the conducive learning environment by working with all the regional student groups and the university administration.
The new SRC president and his team motto is “My operation, your co-operation and our progression” to set a standard.
The rest of the SRC members’ names were not available except for the vice-president (male) Laken Lepatu and secretary Mortimer Yangari.
