TONY Ura bagged the Raukele Cricket Club’s most prestigious awards – player of the season and special award – for an outstanding season.
Ura had a decorated 2022 campaign for Raukele premier men’s team in the Port Moresby Cricket Association competition, smashing a competition record run of 229 runs during the 50-overs grand final.
“Tony had spoken less and shared his experience and love for the club with the bat, switching on his beast mode and entertaining the supporters, families and friends who are always there to cheer the team,” Raukele cricket club vice president Frank Ravusiro said.
“He brings so much dynamic character and is an idol to some players.
“Grand final was the highlight and history making, he scored 229 runs off 112 balls which was 61 per cent of the total score 375 against the Hoods team. “Highest individual score in both POMCA and Raukele Cricket Club History, in a 50-over match.”
The PNG Baramundis top order batsman is also ranked fifth in highest percentage of runs in a One Day International Innings (ODI) and second in highest strike rate (157.95 per cent) in T20 International with 1202 total runs (minimum 1,000 runs). Ura scored an impressive 720 total runs at the conclusion of POMCA 50 over competition in a length of five games.
“He scored 491 runs (2x100s and 2x50s) in the regular season and 229 runs in the final,” Ravusiro said. Ura received the special award for his long service to the club and pledged his continued commitment for Raukele.
“It’s called the special award which was the only one in recognition of his great success,” POM Cricket Association club president Dean Ani said.
