Urban migration a crisis: Official

National

URBAN migration is a national crisis which the Government must deal with seriously, says New Generation Papua Besena executive Samuel Sariman.
He raised the concern yesterday in Port Moresby saying instead of talking about goods and services tax, migration should be addressed first.
He said crime, rape, murder, police brutality, sexual abuse, stealing and other criminal activities resulted from the urban drift.
“MPs are not providing services to their people who are looking for services in the city and causing all problems,” he said
Sariman said the increase in population caused the loss of land in Central and Papua because of land grabbing. He said most of the ethnic clashes in the city were caused by migrants.
“We have seen almost every day the increase in the urban drift which put a lot of stress on the systems – health, education and police.”
He said a proposed Government plan would affect the lives of the Central people in the long run.
