A NEW airport terminal built at a cost of K28.8 million will be opened in Vanimo, West Sepik, on Monday, according to the National Airports Corporation (NAC).
Managing director and chief executive officer Rex Kiponge said the terminal could accommodate up to 100 people.
Kiponge in a statement yesterday, said: “The new airport terminal is part of the entire Vanimo Airport upgrade project valued at K70.1 million funded by the national government with support from the Asian Development Bank.
“With West Sepik being PNG’s closest gateway to Asia, the Vanimo Airport anticipates hosting international flights in the future.”
The Vanimo Airport upgrade project was awarded to China Railway Construction Engineering Group Co Ltd in November 2018 and work started the next year.
The airport’s new terminal building is the second to be opened after Momote Airport in Manus under the Civil Aviation Development Investment Programme.
