HANUABADA’S Nese Koupa Volleyball Association is keen on expanding its player base in the 2021 season, according to an official.
Association president Ako Udu said the association was among a few competitions that were aimed at attracting more interest in the sport and exposing upcoming talents in the village.
He said an increase in competition from last year was a good indication with the association beginning to step up in the bigger Poreporena Amateur Volleyball Association (Pava) competition.
“When we started the 2021 season, we were talking about developing our player base and getting upcoming talents to be competitive, not only in the area but the province,” Udu told The National.
“Last year, we had two rounds of 10 games for the men’s and women’s division, but we only had eight teams per division.
“This year, we have 10 teams in each division.
“We made selections for a couple of our men’s and women’s teams.
“They were the ones who represented us in the Pava competition.
“Pava is a bigger association that covers the entire village and this is where most of our top players get to play.
“We’re hoping that our players can progress from here and break into the higher ranks of the sport.
“We want our players to think outside the limits of our competition.
“We want them to aim for bigger things because there’s much more outside that they can learn and bring back.”
