THE informal sector is booming at the front gate of the National Sports Institute, Goroka, Eastern Highlands, before the counting of votes has even started.
Mothers, fathers and youths put up shelters last Thursday when ballot boxes for the province were brought into the National Sports Institute, where counting for the province will be held.
However, the price of betelnuts instantly soared from 40t or 50t to K1 or K1.20 and prices for fruits and fried sausages sky-rocketed as well.
Since there is no store close to the institute’s front gate, security personnel and polling officials have no choice but to use up their allowances on these goods.
