VICKY Vene, 43, has been named chief financial officer of National Development Bank.
Vene said being a female in an executive position in the bank’s management team was challenging.
But she believed that her appointment was not based on gender, but her capabilities as a professional accountant.
Vene was the bank’s former financial controller who looked after financial operations and reported to the group chief financial officer who then reported to management.
She took up her new role on Monday. “I loved my role as financial controller because I interact with staff daily,” she said.
“I always love to coach and mentor my team.
“But with the confidence given to me by the management and board of NDB, I moved up as the new CFO.
“I am excited and look forward to adding more value to NDB in my new position, to do my very best to surpass the expectations of me and execute my duties without fear or favour.” Apart from internal reporting, she planned to provide accurate reports to the Government, shareholder Kumul Consolidated Holdings Ltd and stakeholders in a timely and efficient manner.
Vene is from Kapari village in Abau, Central, and is married with one child. She has a masters in professional accounting from the Central Queensland University of Australia.
She is a certified practicing accountant (CPA) PNG. She joined the bank 15 years ago.
“Seeing no one within my family gaining a degree led me to continue my studies with hard work, commitment and perseverance and adopting to situations easily and keeping myself up to date with the finance world,” Vene said.
Vene said her role as the NDB group CFO was one of the most significant moments in her career.
