Village court officials trained

Twenty-two village court officials in Usino-Bundi, Madang, have been trained to fill out legal documents.
Village court magistrates and officers from Suma-Guria and Begesin-Giarua were trained to fill out legal documents – like warrants and summons – by provincial village court officers at Usino local-level government station.
It was conducted by Madang village court officer Ailai Valaunia. The officials were from two village courts in the LLG.
Valaunia said the training was in response to an inspection into village courts establishments in the province earlier this year. “The inspection reports indicate that there was never any training for the officials so they haven’t been conducting court sittings,” he said.
“They only do mediations. Since the establishment of 92 village courts in the province in late 2006, there has been no training for officials in two village courts in Usino and four in Kovon LLGs.
“All the others have done formal training and swearing-in of officials.
“The training is part of government’s focus on village courts.”
