KUMUL Petroleum Holdings Limited has donated 40 solar lighting kits to Western Governor Taboi Yoto to be distributed to quake-affected schools and aid posts in the Nomad local level government.
Yoto thanked KPHL for the kits which would be useful for the schools and aid posts.
“The solar kits will be distributed to schools and aid posts in Nomad. We are currently giving out bush knives, hammers and other tools for people to rebuild their lives. The solar lamps will be distributed together with these items,” Yoto said.
KPHL managing director Wapu Sonk said the solar lighting kits were given after the company’s external affairs team identified what people needed after the Feb 26 earthquake.
“KPHL donated K50 million towards the Government’s earthquake relief assistance in March. We also identified the need for solar lighting in Western,” Sonk said.
“KPHL recognises the challenges a number of schools and community aid posts in the province are facing.
“These lighting kits will assist teachers prepare lessons, and health workers at rural dispensaries and aid posts treat patients.”
Sonki said the province was a strategic area for KPHL “as major gas reserves are there. It is a key stakeholder in oil and gas projects and we are mandated to assist them wherever we can.”
