Villagers block road over shooting

Angry villagers blocked the west coast road after police allegedly shot and killed a man outside Wewak town in East Sepik, Wewak police station commander Inspector James Baugen said.
“The man was allegedly killed on Saturday afternoon at Wariman. The villagers then set up the roadblock preventing traffic to flow between Wewak and villages along the West Coast Highway,” he said.
Baugen said yesterday that he had taken the body of the deceased to the morgue at the Wewak General Hospital.
“We don’t know the cause of this killing, so we are now investigating. And I have appealed to the villagers to remove the roadblock to allow traffic flow while we will carry out the investigation. The blockage has now been removed.”
