Villagers need more relief supplies after 21 homes razed

PEOPLE of Maus Kuranga village in Wau, Morobe, are still waiting for more relief supplies after 21 houses burned in a fire that started from a nearby village and swept through dry grass.
As a result, 50 families are living in makeshift homes, according to spokesperson Nati Michael.
“We lost everything in the fire and there was not a thing left for us as the fire started during the day when everybody was away from home,” he said.
Morobe Disaster Office confirmed that it delivered tarpaulins and building tools to affected families to assist them rebuild their homes following the fire about two weeks ago.
Michael said relief supplies provided by the disaster office were not enough.
“We have sent out notices seeking assistance from outside but to date there has not been any positive response,” he said.
