Villagers receive roofing iron

VILLAGERS from the Usino-Bundi in Madang last week, started receiving roofing iron, local MP Jimmy Uguro says.
He said this was in line with the Usino-Bundi Gama rural housing scheme wherein the district had started distributing roofing iron starting with ward two of Gama local level government.
The distribution of the roofing iron was carried out with the help of Mapai Transport and would be transported from the factory at Usino to Banu Bridge where it would then be ferried up the Ramu River.
Uguro said the roofing iron was specifically for families to build permanent houses.
He said families were not allowed to sell or give away the roofing iron.
“It is the ward councillor’s job to ensure families do the right thing and encourage them to build permanent homes,” he said.
Uguro said the roofing iron cost K34,560 and would be distributed to 205 families.
He said the district development authority had also given portable sawmills, costing K48,000, and chainsaws, worth K15,000, to cut timber for houses.
Meanwhile, Uguro said some of his other priority areas included road development, cocoa, electricity, supporting schools and completing NID registration.
