BILBIL villagers in Madang have welcomed the K500,000 commitment by Madang MP Nixon Duban to develop health and education facilities in the village.

He committed K400,000 to reconstruct the Bahor Primary School which Bilbil children attend. Most of the classrooms were destroyed in a tribal fight last year.

The plan is to reconstruct the destroyed classrooms and build two extra rooms to cater for the growing number of children every year.

Head teacher Baro Namba said the school was desperate for infrastructure and the intervention was timely.

Duban committed K100,000 for a new aid post at the village.

He assured villagers he would help fix the damaged bridge that connects the village to the school.

The funding will be drawn from the additional K5 million for health and education allocated by the Government. Duban said Madang district was lucky because it still had K11 million to spend on services.

He visited villages and communities and committed funding assistance to support health and education services, plus women, youth and sports groups.

Duban distributed more than K950,000 as school fee assistance to schools, colleges and universities this week.
