A CABINET minister has joined the chorus of condemnation in regards to the killing of women and children in Hela last week.
Youth, Religion and Community Development Minister Wake Goi said violence “limits the freedom and rights of individuals to fully participate in development”.
“Recently, the scourge of violence had taken hold of our country not only in the rural areas but in the urban areas as well. A week prior, a mother of five (allegedly) lost her life to a violent partner in Port Moresby,” he said.
“Torturing of women and children accused of sorcery, cult-related killings and sexual abuse of children is happening in the country. Now the massacre in Hela.
Goi said life was precious and no-one had the right to take it away.
“Justice will be served and I urge all parties to have confidence in our justice system.”
