PORT Moresby Vipers are considering the services of former SP Hunters prop Enock Maki to boost their pack for the upcoming Digicel Cup season.
The 31-year-old Papua New Guinea Kumul veteran missed Hunters re-selection, but he had expressed interest to continue his rugby league career in the country’s premier rugby league competition.
“Maki has shown interest to join us for the new season, but we haven’t confirmed it yet,” Vipers coach Joe Sipa told The National on Tuesday.
“We will be happy to have him back in the team as he is also a club veteran.
“The second half of our pre-season will start next week, so we will confirm Maki’s availability.
“We will have to undergo medical checks.
“If he can attend training next week then he is locked in for the upcoming season.”
Meanwhile, Sipa said the Vipers would announce their pre-season train-on squad next week.
He said the Vipers completed the first half of their pre-season last month.
“Only 26 players attended the first half of pre-season training,” Sipa said.
“We are retaining the players from last season, but we will look to add a few new players in the second half of the pre-season.”
He said the club had retained their senior players for the new season.
“We will retain senior players like Thompson Teteh, Karis Peter, Ben Wemin and Joel Kee,” Sipa said.
“These are the players we want to build the squad around as we eye a stronger campaign this year.”
