THE National Capital District Commission Port Moresby Vipers will not entertain ill-disciplined players during the Digicel Cup, says a club official.
Vipers chairman James Enage said he would expect nothing but the best from the 25 players that made their roster for the season.
Enage said the club, that had been the flagship for the capital in years gone by, were not the force they once were but under new management the Vipers were aiming to return to their former glory as one of the top sides of the semi-professional competition.
Since City Hall took formal control of the franchise last year the Vipers are set to eventually move to their own home venue (Sir Hubert Murray Stadium) and benefit from their relationship with the Hunters in terms of player development while maintaining the support of the NCD as well as corporate partners and a potential fans base in Port Moresby.
Operations manager Paul Komboi said their first trial game last Sunday at the Sir John Guise Stadium a 40-man squad was picked and would be divided into two sides to face off in another trial.
“We’ve named a 40-man squad that has a balance of youth and experience but we’ll trial them and get our best 25 players and fitness will be a big factor in our considerations,” Komboi said.
Komboi called on squad members to come to training at 5pm for training today. He said players who missed would be cut from the squad.
Komboi said the Vipers teams would play teams from the Port Moresby Rugby League, Motu Koita, Moresby South, Pom Suburban, Hiri West and Hiri East on Saturday.
Komboi said the Gulf Isou and Central Dabaris would likely be part of the trials which would give them the chance to face other Digicel Cup clubs.
