THE Port Moresby Vipers will recruit more players from the Port Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL) competition for the 2021 Digicel Cup season, according to coach Leonard Tarum.
He told The National yesterday that he was keeping a close eye on more than 20 POMRFL players.
Tarum said most of those players also took part in the National Capital District Governor’s Cup.
“This year, we want to get more players from the Port Moresby Rugby Football League,” he said.
“I watched the POMRFL season last year and there were many players who I took note of.
“Most of those players from POMRFL also played with their respective teams in the Governor’s Cup, so I was monitoring them throughout the tournament.
“I haven’t named them yet.
“We’ll just wait and let the Governor’s Cup finish on Sunday before we can talk to those players.
“They caught my attention in the POMRFL but I just wanted to see if they could remain consistent in the Governor’s Cup.
“But so far, so good.
“Most of them have been impressive.”
Tarum said he would retain most of his men from last year with the inclusion of new players to make up their 50-man train-on squad for the pre-season.
He said not all spots in last year’s squad were guaranteed and everyone would have to work hard to retain their places.
Meanwhile, Tarum said he would look at fielding all his fringe players from last season in the upcoming Hope Cup against Mendi Muruks.
