Visa debit card issues fixed, says BSP boss

PAYMENT issues experienced by Bank South Pacific customers with Visa debit card late last year have since been resolved, BSP chief executive Robin Fleming says.
Fleming said the issues arose because card transactions were not automatically cleared in customers’ accounts.
Some BSP customers have raised the problem on social media.
“BSP had experienced settlement issues with Visa intermittently during the months of October and November,” Fleming said.
“This resulted in transactions for certain customers that had been undertaken during these months not being cleared automatically from the Visa settlement account to the customer’s account.
“The problem was rectified in December and around 12 December those transactions undertaken during October and November for affected customers were processed to our customers’ accounts.”
One customer who had problems with the card was Solomon Jerram who thought the late settlements were due to unauthorised deductions.
“In the case of Solomon Jerram, who had posted the complaints, the transactions he referred to had been carried out at Nambawan Trophy Haus and had been undertaken in October or November but were only posted to his account on 12 December as part of the rectification of the settlement issue,” Fleming said.
“The settlement issue was not related to the introduction of the new Visa debit cards and the transactions at Nambawan Trophy Haus had been carried out by Solomon with his old card before he took possession of his new EMV chip-enabled card.
“Our call centre team are trying to call him to advise him of the circumstances that resulted in his account overdrawing.”
Fleming urged BSP customers facing any issues with their Visa debit card to call the bank on 320 1212 or 7030 1212 for assistance.
