TEAM Papua New Guinea athletes and officials preparing to compete at the Paris Olympic Games will now benefit from Vodafone’s cutting edge telecommunication services after the company and PNG Olympic Committee signed a three-year partnership on Wednesday.
Vodafone will be Team PNG’s telecommunication partner who will enable athletes and officials to stay connected with their families and fans. Vodafone will spend K300,000 over three years.
PNGOC secretary general Desmond Kaviagu said the partnership would benefit athletes taking part in the Pacific Mini Games in Palau next year and the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
“We are very fortunate, thrilled and excited to have partnered with a global brand not only for the Paris Olympic Games but a partnership that extends over three years to support Team PNG,” said Kaviagu.
“Team PNG is made up of the 40 national federations in PNG so this partnership will benefit them through other sports (events) that come under the Olympic Games movement including the Pacific and Commonwealth Games.”
Vodafone will launch a series of promotional campaigns that will give fans behind the scenes access to the athletes’ preparation, including interviews and interactive sessions via their digital platforms.
“We always find inspiration watching athletes competing,” said Vodafone’s head of sales and distribution Joe Karo.
“More than just a financial investment but on the personal growth and development of the PNG athletes.”
