Volleyball association eyeing more training

A VOLLEYBALL association is targeting more training and employment opportunities for its officials and players while they are engaged in the sport.
President Kidu Morea said a handful of women from the inaugural season last year were among the first people to undergo courses through the Manubada Volleyball Association.
“It’s not only about volleyball but we’ve been engaging our players in up-skilling courses that they can use to broaden their means of income,” he told The National.
“Sports are one of the best avenues for people to keep themselves occupied but a priority for only a few people running them.
“So what can we do to help this small group of people?
“When Covid-19 hit the country, this small group of people and their families were affected.
“So now, we want to be creative and engage them as entrepreneurs or at least get them equipped with the right skills to earn an income.
“My aim is to secure semi or fulltime employment opportunities for the officials who run the association and I’m hoping I can get a few coaches and players involved.”
Meanwhile, Morea said the presentation of awards for last season would be announced along with the 2021 season launching in July.
“Due to timing, we gave out the trophies to the winners of each division but we want to get into the individual awards so this will also tie in with our 2021 season launching,” he said.
