THE Papua New Guinea Volleyball Federation has thanked PNG Amoa representatives who assisted in the recent four-day term one school holiday junior trials held in Port Moresby last week.
Federation president Edward Aisi told The National their participation motivated the junior’s and they would be engaging them again during the second leg of the beach and indoor volleyball trials during the term two school holiday.
“There is a lot of potential and pathways for the Oceania Central Region in the sport of volleyball,” Aisi said.
“Big thanks to our secretary general Ronald Omoa. He came up with this idea of building future Amoa players through this school holiday junior trials.
“This is actually in line with PNG Sports Foundation executive director Albert Veratau’s mission ‘To go Rural, Go Global’.
“We have taken the first step, we hope that PNG Sports Foundation joins us in our term two holiday programme, and may be support us with some sort of funding so we can uniform these juniors and give them some sort of hope at the end of the day. But in generally, I am so excited. We started off with less number and now it has increased.
“My only disappointment is a lot of senior players who don’t work have chosen to stay back and not filter the information that they learn once upon a time when they were kids to these young juniors.
“I am happy to be part of this as its exciting programme seeing these super stars progress.”
Meanwhile, PNG Amoa women’s assistant head coach Willie Wapa Vuina said such pathway development programme for juniors would help develop the code in the country and prepare players for national duties.
