MINING Minister Johnson Tuke says the Government’s position paper on Morobe’s Wafi-Golpu project is before the National Executive Council for deliberation.
Speaking during a reception for vice-minister Peter Sapia in Port Moresby on Monday, Tuke said that some issues were before the courts.
“But that doesn’t stop us from deliberating on Wafi-Golpu,” he said. Tuke said during the signing of the framework agreement on the reopening of the Porgera mine that Wafi-Golpu would be the next priority.
He said a Special Mining Lease would be granted soon.
“This Government is proactive and committed to deliver,” Tuke said.
Meanwhile, Sapia said he would do his best for the ministry.
“Mining has been an important economic backbone for the country and our ministry is faced with challenges specifically outstanding reviews in mining in Papua New Guinea,” he said.
