Wagambie Cup soccer on again in Wewak

 THE famous Christmas soccer tournament, the Wagambie Cup, is set to light up the sleepy town of Wewak, East Sepik province during the long Christmas and New Year’s break.

The organizing committee under Clarence Hukahu has been working around the clock to ensure everything is in place before the competition kick-off on Saturday at Prince Charles Oval, Wewak. 

The Wagambie Cup soccer tournament will run from December 21, 2013 to January 1, 2014.

According to major sponsor and the principal of Wagambie Lawyers, Michael Wagambie, the competition is under the capable hands of Mr Hukahu – who is also the tournament director for the week-long soccer festival.

Hukahu who is the forefront of the only recognized futsal competition in the country under Wewak Soccer Association has been running the competition smoothly for the last two Christmas holidays.

Meanwhile, the Defence FC at Moem Barracks in Wewak is already in full swing  training for this event.

The soldiers club has produced some of the talented players who will be on show during the tournament. 

They include Rodney Bega, Raymond Gwamse, Samuel Tilita, Thomas Kania, Mathias Iga and young talent in Timlon Iga.
