NATIONAL Capital District (NCD) rebounded from two-straight losses with a 4-0 victory against Port Moresby Academy in round eight of the Women’s National Soccer League Southern Conference in the nation’s capital on Saturday.
NCD coach Wira Wama told The National that losing Georgina Kaikas to Hekari United during last month’s transfer window had a negative impact on the team as she was an experienced player who they looked up to.

Despite that, Wama encouraged his side to focus on the basics and work on their attacking tactics for their match against Academy.
“Throughout the week, we worked on our attacking formation and we switched players around,” he said.
“I’m thrilled that most of the players performed well and implemented our game plan.”
In an earlier interview, Wama said his side were struggling with communication and support for striker Cynthia Bangita.
“A lot of my girls are young and some of them don’t speak during games, so communication is one of our biggest challenges,” he said.
Their performance in Saturday’s opening match saw the team provide ample support for Bangita with assists from winger Zaire Kuyae.

Bangita scored a hat-trick and Kuyae netted a goal to help fourth-placed NCD record their third win of the season.
Wama said his focus was not on the points they scored or their position on the ladder but rather the development of young players for a bright future in football.
“My aim is to develop the players, they are young and have a long future ahead of them,” he said.
“One thing I taught them was patience, you can’t just come into the league and expect to go all the way to the top of the ladder.
“This is their first entry at the national level, so there’s no shame in losing.
“We have many more seasons to come.”
