ONE of Rabaul’s most wanted suspects was nabbed by Rabaul police after a shootout last week.
Gordon Kamboli, 21, was arrested at a hideout in Karavi village early on Wednesday.
Assistant police commissioner, New Guinea Islands, Perou N’dranou said police had managed to track
Kamboli’s whereabouts and find his hideout after weeks of gathering intelligence.
N’dranou said Kamboli had noticed the presence of police officers and attempted to jump off the verandah of his hideout and attack them when he was shot in the leg to prevent him from escaping.
He said Kamboli and five others, were arrested at the scene.
Kamboli, from Karavi village in East New Britain, is wanted over a series of armed robberies and break-and-entry, and stealing in Rabaul, including robberies of John Jay Seeto and the Rabaul Hotel late last year and early this year.
He is now undergoing treatment at Nonga Hospital under tight security.
“The five other individuals will be processed by the criminal investigation division, Rabaul,” N’dranou said.
“A major incident brief will be submitted in due course.”
He applauded the combined efforts of law enforcement agencies, including the special operations unit and mobile squad 18, that contributed to them finding and arresting the suspect and ensuring the safety of the community.
