Wards must have plans

National

EVERY ward in Morobe should have a five-year plan to be funded by the national and provincial governments, says Tewai-Siassi MP Kobby Bomareo.
Bomareo also advised the 565 ward councils in Morobe to open bank accounts where funds for projects could be deposited.
The Morobe government, in its 2020 budget, has allocated a development grant of K5,000 to each ward and K150,000 to the 33 local level governments.
The provincial budget of more than K484.6 million, approved by the Tutumang on Monday, allocated a grant of K500,000 each to “disadvantaged” LLGs.
Bomareo said with funds available, the LLGs and wards should have workable five-year plans.
He told LLG presidents to work with the district administration in drawing up the plans.
He also suggested that LLGs find ways to generate their own revenue.
Markham MP Koni Iguan urged the provincial government to assist in the opening of ward bank accounts.
Bulolo MP Sam Basil said the Government was giving K10,000 to each ward. There are more than 6,000 wards around the country.
Basil said the Bulolo development authority would also be funding the ward councils and all other districts should do.
