THE Port Moresby Rugby Football League will enter its final round of regular matches this weekend with competition leaders Dobo Warriors facing third-placed Hohola Flies in today’s A-grade clash (4pm kick-off).
Flies will be looking to seal a top-four spot following their 12-8 win over Royals on Saturday, with livewire Darren Anabe leading their attack at fullback.
Their pack, led by front-rower Jeremy Yakipu, will be put to the test against Dobo’s Graham Molo at lock.
Dobo, under head coach Bruce Au, will be hungry for a win to continue an impressive campaign, in which they suffered just one loss from seven matches.
Competition heavyweights Paga Panthers will be looking to retain fourth spot when they go up against fifth-placed Souths on Saturday.
An impressive Souths backline, led by five-eighth William Mone, will be put under pressure from a relentless Paga side led by centre Jay Bee Dom in the clash of the round.
Meanwhile, eighth-placed Butterflies will be looking to keep their finals hopes alive when they meet Magani while Kone Storm play Gulf West.
Sunday’s matches will see Hanuabada Hawks play Tarangau and Brothers battle Royals.
League administrator Meke Maino said the timing of the finals was crucial with clubs urged to complete matches before heading into the playoffs.
“We’re using the Macintyre system (top-eight) system that is been used by the National Rugby League in Australia,” he said.
“So once all our round matches are completed, we’ll confirm the top-eight sides for the finals.”
