DIGICEL Cup matches will not be played at Dickson’s Oval in Kundiawa this season.
PNG National Rugby League Competition manager Stanley Hondina said the facility and field of play was in poor condition and unfit to host Simbu Warriors’ home matches.
The Warriors, who return to the semi-professional competition after a 22-year absence, will play their home fixtures in Minj, Jiwaka.
Hondina said Warriors and Waghi Tumbe board had agreed to the arrangement which would mean the venue would host double-headers.
The Digicel Cup season kicks off on Sunday and with the launch featuring the captains of the 10 franchises today at the Vision City in Port Moresby.
“We inspected facilities in the provinces and Kundiawa did not meet our requirements,” Hondina said.
Hondia clarified that the Joe Keviame Oval in Mendi had not been affected by the recent earth quakes which hit the area.
