WASCOM Touch Football Club have been crowned champions after making a clean sweep in all three divisions of the Lae Corporate Touch Association grand finals on Sunday.
Wascom edged Nomads 2-1 to claim the boys’ title.
In the open mixed division, they humbled Nomads 4-2.
The main final started on a high note, with Wascom and Nomads displaying fast, attacking football.
Wascom, under the guidance of captain James Maim, were first to cross over for a 1-0 lead.
The game seesawed as both teams looked to their bag of tricks to spark their attack and it was the Maim brothers who stole the show, with Michael scoring the second try to extend Wascom’s lead to 2-0.
But the Nomads, determined not to let down their supporters, kept applying pressure and were rewarded with a try to Brian Benny to bring the scoreline to 2-1.
In the second stanza, Nomads captain Enoch Tongunia bagged the equaliser.
But that was all the Nomads could produce, as Isaac Casper’s reply seconds later sealed the winner for Wascom.
Result: Wascom 3 (James Maim, Michael Maim, Isaac Casper tries) Nomads 2 (Brian Benny, Enoc Tongunia tries).
