INSTALLATION of taps under a water restoration and maintenance project was to ease the burden on women who carried water long distances, says Morobe’s Bulolo MP Sam Basil Jr.
Ward councillor Wilson Nganu thanked the development authority (DDA), who made it possible for clean and safe drinking water supply to reach Wagau village in Buang, and now the locals have installed basins and sinks inside their homes.
Nganu said they had built a community shower block and were in the process of trialing the installation of a septic toilet system.
“Such luxuries were common in town areas,” he said.
“We are installing these things as they add value to our lives as village people.”
The water supply was under the water restoration and maintenance project that was endorsed by the DDA.
Ward three and four had launched theirs and Wagau is the third village to benefit from the project.
About 14 taps were installed around the village as well as the primary and elementary schools that the village.
Basil Jr said it was the priority of the district to ensure that people had access to basic essential services so that they were able to live a better life in the village.
“It is important that the basics are done right,” he said.
The project was said to run from ward one all the way to ward 20 of the area.
“Launching in three wards has been done, and the project team is currently working on restoring water in wards 12 and 14 and the project will be completed,” Basil Jr stated.
District administrator Joe Paru said the project would cost about K400,000 and it was also included in the district five-year development plan.
