THE three local contractors that will build the Wau to Garaina road have received an initial K2 million to begin the work to link the untapped valley to outside world.
The funding was a portion from the K3.8 million allocated by the Morobe provincial government to link almost 10,000 people from the area who have to walk five days to Wau before boarding a PMV to Lae.
Deputy governor and Waria LLG president Morokoi Gaiwata presented the cheque for
K2 million to Jaka Investment director Jacob Kai at the Agmark
machinery yard.
He said for far too long, the Waria people had been neglected and denied the right to take part meaningfully in socio-economic activities.
He said despite being vocal in the Bulolo joint district planning committee meetings, nothing had eventuated about the road until now.
The contractors are Jaka Investment, which will build the Wau-Biaru section; Gaman Holdings will build from Biaru-Sim and NPV Construction Ltd will build the road from Sim to Bapi then to Garaina. The Sim to Garaina portion will be a new cut access.
