LAUTOKA, Fiji: FC Morobe Wawens goalkeeper Jason Bendi is keen to continue his stunning form in the Oceania Football Confederation Champions League Group B competition in Lautoka, Fiji.
Bendi made his debut in the premier club competition with an impressive performance against Lautoka despite conceding five goals.
The 21-year-old displayed some brilliant reflexes to deny Solomon Islands international Benjamin Totori and Fijian striker Samuela Drudru.
He also denied Zibraaz Sahib a hat-trick with a wonderful save in the second half.
The young lad said he had mixed feelings after his debut against the hosts at Churchill Park last Sunday.
“The last game, I was prepared to play this game. So, I gave it my best shot,” Bendi said.
“I know they won, but I still feel I played well. I feel better, because they (Lautoka players) were very experienced players.
“So, when I saved those balls, I felt like it’s hard, I felt the pressure and excitement when I saved the ball.
“They are big name players who represented their countries but I did my best, played simple.”
Bendi believes his team still has something to play for in the remaining matches.
“I believe in our boys, we got the two remaining games. We just have to work together,” the young shot stopper added.
Wawens went on to lose their second group fixture 7-0 to Tahiti’s AS Central Sport seeing them out of playoff contention heading into Saturday’s clash against Henderson Eels of the Solomon Islands. – OFC
