Wawens ready for NSL

MOROBE Wawens are eager to complete their Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League (NSL) campaign with plans to settle their debts from last season, according to an official.
Club vice-president Peter Seske told The National yesterday that the Wawens management would make it a priority to settle their bills at the resumption of the country’s premier football competition.
The competition remains on hold due to the nationwide State of Emergency over the coronavirus pandemic.
Seske said the club had sufficient funds to settle their debts.
It is understood that the Wawens lost their round-six fixture on forfeit to Star Mountain due to travel arrangements not being made by the competition organisers over unpaid fees.
However, he blamed the lack of communication between the NSL and the club.
“We have guaranteed the Papua New Guinea Football Association and NSL that all outstanding debts will be settled as soon as the Covid-19 situation improves and normalcy is restored,” Seske said.
“For this year, we have paid everything in full.
“We will deal with our debts but it’s merely the lack of clear communication that has made it a big fuss.
“There are other clubs that previously participated in NSL that have had similar issues.
“But for whatever reasons, Wawens are now on spotlight compared to those clubs. I want to make it clear that all our debts will be settled as we look forward to the resumption of the season.”
Meanwhile, despite being in seventh spot in the 10-team competition, Seske said they would continue to develop more raw talents and give them semi-professional exposure.
