We are keen to resume playing

Sports

Hello everyone, welcome to the 28th ‘Churchie’s Comment’ for the year in your favourite rugby league newspaper — The National.
Finally, the SP Hunters will play some rugby league this weekend, provided that everything remains fine with restrictions that have delayed our competition.
We face Souths Logan Magpies at Byrcoft Oval at 2.10pm on Sunday and everyone is looking forward to getting back to playing. It has been a month since we have played.
We now have the first of three games to finish the season, our last meeting the Magpies they ran out winners, scoring three late tries through kicks to run out convincing winners. It was a game that we only had 16 eligible players to select from and had to play one player straight out of quarantine to make up the full 17 players.
It was a tough period the Hunters faced at that time. Despite the challenges, we managed to remain in the contest until after the 55th minute when Jokadi Bire scored. From then on, we just couldn’t hold the momentum against a team that was strengthened by five contracted Brisbane Broncos players.
While results haven’t fallen our way throughout the campaign, we have been in the contest and seen vital improvement during the season.
We look to bring that improvement for the remaining games and finish the season strongly.
I’m expecting the boys to be full of energy to get back into action.
I look forward to being able to discuss more Hunters rugby league content with you next week.
Great to see the Digicel Cup final kick off last week. Good luck to the remaining four teams vying for this years premiership.
Until next week, stay safe, play safe and let’s all respect and be kind to each other.

Cheers,
Matt
