Weather office predicting more rain, winds

Main Stories

THE National Weather Office is predicting more rain in the coming months as the wetter and warmer season closes in on Papua New Guinea.
Acting director Jimmy Gomoga said there was likely to be more rain this month.
He said PNG would experience strong winds across the country, thunder storms and hail storms in the Highlands.
“People up in the highlands and those living in a bush-material house should be aware of the strong winds and storms,” he said.
Gomoga said PNG was undergoing a transit period – when season officially changed – and was showing signs of La Nina with regular blustery conditions.
He said they declared La Nina so people could get prepared when the actual weather hit the country.
Gomoga said agriculture, fisheries, infrastructure, water and health were likely to be affected.

  • Mr Gomoga, you have been lying to the people of PNG all along in your so called weather prediction thing! When will you tell the truth or when will your predictions about the changing weather patterns be correct? We always read in media about your little weather forecast information about rain, or drought or windy day, however it always happen on the contrary and always in the in the negative. We now changed our mind about this weather, and believed that because of the climate change, the weather changes at anytime naturally or by itself. Due to these changes, it will NEVER go in line with your little predictions. So no matter how many times you synchronize your weather machines in your office to get the accurate reading, you and your machine can not dictate how the weather pattern changes. You based your predictions on little clues or hints, I mean, when they is a little shower in one afternoon, you say there will be rain for a month. And when you see a strong wind blowing in one day, you say there will be strong winds for a month etc.. The question is, why don’t you make an independent predictions without all these clues and inform the public, so we can be able to know that there will be rain or wind or drought during this period. You cannot not be able to make a clear and independent prediction because you are incompetent, just like your weather machine!! We don’t need any prediction from you because it is NOT ALWAYS RIGHT. Please let us embrace these changing weather patterns ourselves and flow on with the weather. We have been fried in this sunbaked city for a very long time, without a rain. Your incorrect predictions can not be a remedy for this. It’s TOTALLY up to the nature to decide on weather patterns and not you and your inaccurate weather machine!

  • Please don’t blame the poor guy. He’s saying what the system is telling him but than the weather patterns are changing rapidly during this period of unpredictable climatic changes. Not like old days when we would believe the weatherman. Not anymore!

  • Not sure if the National Weather Office has the latest, modern, reliable weather predicting equipment.

All weather predictions seem to be wrong all the time!

If weather predictions are wrong all the time then imagine the risk the fisherman, ships and those that depend on the weather are facing everyday.

Fisherman see or hear the prediction by the weather office as fine and go out fishing suddenly heavy rain and wind appears out of nowhere and sinking the boats and the fisherman.

Should we blame the weatherman or the weather?

    Food for thought.

  • Well at least the weather man’s reporting something on the weather…glad to get the rains here in POM…
Welcome relieve to an otherwise Dusty affair.
