Department of Commerce and Industry now has a website to provide a platform for investment and economic development.
Minister Wera Mori said during the launch in Port Moresby on Friday that the website must be different and be updated regularly.
“It must not be an empty space, a vacuum,” he told the staff outside their office.
“People need to know how many tonnes of copra we have exported this year, last year or over the last 10 years and
the potential for the next 10 years.
“Likewise, other cash crops, industries, whether it be manufacturing, fishing, or in logging.
“We have a constitutional responsibility to drive the
economic policy of this country.
“Information must be readily available to those who would want to come and invest in this country.
“We must have a well-kept data that must be very accurate.”
The website will feature:

  • Roles and objectives of each division and project within the department;
  • forms and pamphlets to download;
  • links to other government websites;
  • links to Apec websites;
  • department news and updates; and,
  • Other news and information about the government.

Department Secretary Andrew Liliura said that it was a right step in sharing important information on relevant policies, legislations and major economic initiatives of the department and ministry to the world. “Our department is also on the forefront in harnessing digital technology to connecting people and business to the digital world,” he said.
“The power of information technology lies in its ability to provide a cost-effective platform to reach out to people all over the world.”
Liliura said the launch of the website was timely, especially during the Apec economic leaders’ week and the agenda of embracing the fast-changing digital world.
