It’s a week of rain, storms and floods

RAIN, storms and floods will continue to the end of this week, according to the National Weather Office.
“The weak La Nina conditions continue over PNG,” said acting NWO director Jimmy Gomoga.
The weak La Nina conditions cause relatively wet and dry conditions throughout the country, thus creating average-to-below average rainfall in some parts of the country.
Some centres around the country will receive rain while others will experience dry conditions as it’s only the impact of the weak La Nina weather pattern, Gamoga said.
The Central and Miline Bay provinces should be expecting heavier rainfall this weekend starting this Friday – as well as Port Moresby.
People in these areas are advised to be cautious of floods that may be brought about by heavy rain.
Much rain should be expected this Saturday as well along the northern coastlines of East and West New Britain.
Madang and West New Britain will experience a storm passing through the Vitiaz Strait on Saturday and Sunday.
“The good news is everyone is experiencing rain across the country,” Gomoga said.
Below average rainfall is expected during the week in the Highlands region and Bougainville while other parts of the country should mostly be fine.
