THE Royal Port Moresby Golf Club last week hosted a junior golfers’ camp with 42 participants undergoing activities and training during the weeklong programme.
Programme trainer and golf coach Nelson Gabriel told The National yesterday that the introduction of the camp came after the regular junior golf programme for the year was put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Every year we have a junior golf programme and we start it in line with the children’s academic calendar and we close around the same time when they close from school,” he said.
“Normally we have levels two, three and four for the juniors but due to the coronavirus, we didn’t have any junior golf this year so we decided to run a camp during the September period which we concluded last week.
“This year was supposed to the seventh year for us to run the programme but we had to stop because of the Covid-19 pandemic so since the programme was put on hold we the club decided to have short camp for it to be a refresher programme and an introduction to the sport for the juniors.
“We went through a lot fun activities to get the kids back into the mood of the game so it was good.
“So for the beginners, we went back to basic things surrounding the game, like how you dress, your presentation and the etiquette of the game,” Gabriel said. Gabriel and fellow trainer Roz Taufa conducted the camp with participants receiving certificates following the conclusion of the camp.
