THE weighbridge in Lae, Morobe, needs more equipment to be installed before it can be opened for use, says National Road Authority chief executive officer Ponege Poya.
He said amendments to the Heavy Vehicle Licensing Act were still to be gazetted too.
The opening is likely to be in June, he said. The most important equipment to be installed are cameras to monitor the loads coming in and going out.
“These cameras once installed will be monitored through the Port Moresby office to make sure there is compliance and that instances of bribery to take overload can be minimised,” he said.
“Once the policy is gazetted, the Road Traffic Authority will start enforcing the law and that is the time the two weighbridge will be in full operations,”
Poya said the purpose of building weighbridge was to decrease the amount of damage on roads by trucks with heavy loads.
A trial of the weighbridge yesterday showed that adjustments had to be made further.
